Willing to show my support for my husband’s new adopted location somewhere in the central region of Romania, today (being abandoned in the residence in favor of 12 stressful hours in the oil sludge smelling container) I set to discover the city.
I put on boots and 4 layers of clothing to prepare for this outdoor project. I started on a neighboring street, where all these amazing brand new houses are built. This is the one I liked most

Downtown is a walk-only street, shops left and right, people walking with kids, with colleagues or loved ones.
Old lady reading the newspaper called "The Truth" (Adevarul) on a bench
Or "Viitoarele cocote de mahala" (this one is untranslatable) talking loudly about who was invited and who was not at the party tonight celebrating someone's 18th birthday (majorat fata!!!)
Further down, the city theatre, a full testament of old grey heavyly communistic “art” establishment
But there is a new shop in town. Which one looks more like a cultural destination?
Finally I reached an area full of people and traditional music and an improvised market. A weekend celebration of “City Days”
It seems quite clear that we like meat!
And the unforgettable
No, it is not for decoration or for voodoo purposes.
Yes, it will be eaten and then washed down with a 540 tzuica (vodka/absinth like home-made prune liquor).
So I conclude that it is a place of contrasts. Old and new is co-existing mismatched and unique. It seems like the place and its people are searching for an identity, a signature, a status. I wonder what's the goal…
i never liked that pork skin :-&
