I was given a very short notice for this trip, but the city surprised me once more. When I arrived, there was a snow storm that would have kept indoors even the most adventurous dogs. Chicago is called ‘The Windy City’.
And what a wind… -5oC felt like much less. I am no longer used to below freezing point temperatures, and while your nostrils start sticking together and the wind is piercing the skin on your face, living in the desert all of the sudden feels like a blessing.

The buildings and the architecture are a nice mix of modern and classic designs and the result is quite beautiful. Millennium Park, with its very futuristic art installations; one metal ‘Bean’ that is reflecting the surrounding buildings and the people who are underneath it. And the glass ‘Face’ walls: two giant cubes on which faces are projected. They are very expressive and either they stare you down or smile at you.
Admitting to be an O junkie myself, I couldn’t pass the idea of visiting Oprah Studios. She wasn’t there (she is having the last show in Australia), but the feeling and the view of seeing something in real life that you only saw on TV before is absolutely incredible.
As for the Christmas vibe… everywhere lights, snow, Salvation Army bells at every corner wishing Merry Holidays to pass byers, even my ring tone is Jungle Bells. I can’t wait for Mr. Van to finally come home so we can put the tree up.
