Discovering Romania - Cutea de Arges and Vidraru

Here are some pictures from our latest weekend in Romania.

Some history first: Curtea de Arges City is the site of couple medieval churches. The most important church is the Biserica Domnească (Royal Church) built by  Basarab I, completely renovated in 2003-2004. It resembles a stone fortress, connected through catacombs to a guard tower on a nearby hill. Ruins of the Prince's Palace Complex are still visible.

The Curtea de Arges Cathedral (early 16th century) is a church located in the grounds of a monastery. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas.

We followed the road 30 km more to reach Vidraru Dam and Vidraru Lake, built in 1965 to produce hydroelectricity. Pretty impressive view.

It is still winter
