10.X.10 - one year later

It's been a year since we went hand in hand together to St. Andrew's Church in Abu Dhabi to get married by our deaf priest who we liked very much and who coached us into married life and warned us of the possible troubles we could run into. That's where we found out that the biggest issues in a marriage arise from 3 very simple causes:
Communication - actually the lack of it...
Money - probably also the lack of $$$
The third one we can't remember… Ops…
We had 2 witnesses, our good friend V. and Mr. A.

A lot has happened since…

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, the CEO and co-founder of Apple died yesterday at only 56 years old. He was a visionary and I am sure that without his innovation, our digital life would be much more boring today.
In this video you can watch his 2005 speech at Standford University Graduation.
3 very simple and humbling life lessons for the new graduates.

SGN Airport Shopping

We have a pretty impressive number of airports that we've seen over the years. But this, ladies and gentlemen, is a new concept for us:

Understand your spouse better

All women ask themselves at one point "what do men think" and then we spend hours over herbal tea trying to decode their behavior.
All men ask themselves "what do women want" and then they drink a beer and watch a game.
Watch this video and wonder less...

It's raining in Vietnam

We have been silent for a while. I only realized that when Mr Van asked me this morning if people were still reading our blog and I couldn't really say. I was idle in the blogosphere for 10 days. A disgrace I tell you! A disgrace!

What are we eating today?

This is a menu sample from BMC Hotel in Ha Tinh.
And yes, they do have it fresh... Where do they keep the snakes and why only the head is used for cooking is something to be explored in future posts.

Where to eat in New York

During our 9 day pilgrimage to New York, we toured a bit of the restaurant scene. Some of them were recommended by food blogs, some of them we discovered while walking and some we chose just because they were close to our location.

Slow-carb diet --- Week 1

Slow-carbing our way through the first week delivered amazing results for both of us: Mr Van lost 7cm of his waist and Mrs Van 6cm. This is fantastic news for us as we did not expect such performance given that we snacked on almonds and ate eggs and ham every day. We were not hungry or felt deprived and the only exercise done was a 30 min jog and 40 push ups for the entire week.

Sunday we spent binging on everything from ice cream (homemade by Mrs Van) to pizza (homemade by Mrs Van), cookies (homemade by Mrs Van), Pavlova (home made by Mrs Van) and olive bread (home made by Mrs Van) with butter (store bought). This cheat day not only made a Sunday cook out the Mrs, but also delivered high levels of enjoyment of our food. Chocolate tastes different if you only indulge in it once a week, not every day.
We started the week feeling slim, sugar high and a bit sick.

This is such a great and easy way of living and eating, we are now thinking of launching a blog dedicated to the receipts in both english and romanian and maybe soon in flemish of the food we eat during the week and also the crazy weekends.

What are your thoughts about this?

Getting skinny with it...

After our Miami Beach experience of tanned people with perfectly carved bodies and an even more traumatizing experience of our friend G measuring us with her miracle machine that will tell you not only how much you weigh, but also how much muscle and fat you have in your body composition, 'visceral health' which means how much fat percentage you have around your organs, and how much is your resting caloric requirement - way lower than we consume thought.
We decided it is time for a change. We have both neglected our booties and bellies and it shows.
